I was looking for a discrete BT add-on for my 2003 BMW. From the factory there was no BT option, so I wanted something that I could interface, and simply give me hands-free operation. I didn't want some ugly aftermarket solution that required me to put some silly screen on the dash to work, I just wanted something I could hide and keep the factory look- I wanted a hard wired solution that didn't clutter up the cigarette lighter and dash.Per the instructions I installed it on the passenger side of the car underneath the dash on the removable plastic panel and secured the speaker with strong double-sided 3M tape, and the power and ground wires were routed from behind the factory CD indash down to the box- very simple and direct.I facilitated a call mute function by installing a standard Bosch relay to interrupt power to the stereo (as if the key was turned off) when the phone rings, works perfectly. In the middle of music I get call, stereo shuts off, and HF turns on. Mic was routed up to the rearview mirror where it was stuck up top with double - sided tape- barely noticeable, but superb sound quality.NOTE- you don't even need the controller to operate- the first time you turn on the unit, make sure your phone is BT enabled, and it will set up, you don't need to press any buttons. WIth that said, I set the volume of the HF at max, and you can control the volume through the cell phone. All functions on can be controlled by the phone itself. It's loud, and pretty clear. However, the car itself it pretty quiet, so as long as you don't drive a serious hot-rod it'll be OK for volume, more than adequate. With that said, I stuck the controller in the glove box, just sitting there- (putting the controller on display is U G L Y and simply isn't needed- you don't need it to operate BT, use the phone) . I suspect you don't even need it hooked up, but it's not doing any harm sitting in the glovebox, out of view and it's still functional if I need for some reason.thinking about buying a 2nd one as a spare, in case mine breaks someday- at this price (or even triple) it's a good, solid deal.
